Wednesday September 17 th – 7.30pm
Gheluvelt
For a fascinating talk about our local city and regiment please join us to find out about the first crisis of the First Battle of Ypres which centered on the village of Gheluvelt, on 31st October 1914. Gheluvelt village in Belgium seemed to have been lost, making a gap in the British line, through this a German breakthrough to Ypres (and beyond) was likely.
Hear the story of a successful counter-attack of 2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment against the German army at Gheluvelt.
The Gheluvelt park in Worcester is the war memorial to this battle and earlier this year a Gheluvelt to Gheluvelt cycle ride took place over 320 miles and 4 days to commemorate the contribution of the city’s regiment.
